Compensation is determined in a simple manner. Consultant keeps 80% of the bill rate which can be issued as W-2 or 1099 income. If consultant chooses W-2 salaried income, then ~10% goes to payroll taxes. The remaining 70% will be subject to individual income taxes. The company can help arrange for health insurance benefits. If the consultant is on H-1b status, then income must be issued as W-2 and salary will be based on LCA requirements or 80% of the bill rate, whichever is greater.
